Introduction
Search across STAC catalogs through one interface, with Python, Rust, or the command line.
Many catalogs. One search.
Search several STAC catalogs with one query. Add the catalogs you use, choose an area and date range, and get their results together.
Use Python in a notebook or script, Rust in your application, or the command line. SuperSTAC searches catalogs in parallel and reports which ones failed, so you can check whether the results are complete.
For the background and motivation, read Introducing SuperSTAC: Many catalogs. One search.
What’s new in v0.3
Save your study-area metadata and explore it repeatedly, with live catalog fallback.
Run your first search
A complete example against two catalogs.
Understand federation
From one query to multiple sources.
Use Python
Scripts, notebooks, and asyncio applications.
Try the notebook
Search, map, and export in Colab or Jupyter.
Use Rust
Embed the engine in your application.
What you can build
Find imagery across catalogs, use consistent collection and band names, or check which datasets a catalog offers. If you often search the same area, save its metadata to GeoParquet and reuse it. Results contain STAC metadata and asset links; use your usual tools to download and process imagery.
Before you start
Start with installation, then run your first search. SuperSTAC is alpha software: APIs may change, and some search features are not yet supported.
Choose your interface
| Interface | A good fit for |
|---|---|
| Python Client | Notebooks, scripts, and synchronous pipelines. |
| Python AsyncClient | Applications that already use asyncio. |
| Rust engine | Native integrations on Tokio. |
| CLI | Terminal exploration and shell workflows. |
